  • Am I Hearing From God?

    April 13, 2020

    Dear Ashley,

Good morning… I am thinking about retiring in July but I am really scared that I may not find anything else or that I am making the right decision. How do I know if I am hearing from God or if it is my voice?

    Dear Reader,

Proverb 19:21 assures us that, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.”

As Christians, when we abide in Jesus, He abides in us. Jesus himself said: “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. (John 15:4 NKJV)” In order to abide with Jesus, we simply must keep the Word of God in our hearts and love Jesus. We show our love for Jesus by obeying His Word. Pretty simple instructions right? If you are doing this, trust and have confidence that in prayer God will reveal His will for your life and that next thing. You should be able to feel that gut feeling and sense of peace after you’ve prayed because “we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28 NKJV)

Pray a prayer such as this:

“Most High Father, in Jesus Christ’s name, and according to James 1:5, I am seeking wisdom for my career and my next best move. I submit my life to You, God. Help me Lord, to hear Your voice by silencing my own thoughts and any thoughts that are not from You Jehovah. May the Holy Spirit speak, so I may receive the wisdom I seek and please You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Then LISTEN and LOOK. Listen for that still small voice. Look for scripture, vision, or signs to show up as confirmation of what you should do. Once you hear and receive clear direction from God, endeavor to walk in obedience. Trust that God dwells in your heart and He is the one guiding you by the Holy Spirit. Should your prayer time not yield peace that surpasses all understanding, keep praying and keep listening until you enter into a state of resolution and confidence.

Ultimately, even when you think you’re directing your own steps for the future, the scriptures tell us “a person’s steps are directed by the LORD” (Prov. 20:24 NKJV). So don’t be scared! For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Tim.1:7 NKJV) If you’ve been reading the Word, you’ve been doing the work to transform and renew your mind. No matter what you decide, know this, 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NKJV); “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

Praying for your clarity and confidence,

    Ashley

  • Everything is Falling Apart...

    March 23, 2020

    Dear Ashley,

I started a business 6 years ago, and things were going fine for the first 5 years. Last year, my husband and I divorced because of infidelity (on his part). Because I had to take some time for myself and I had to suddenly take over taking care of all the bills and children by myself, my business is struggling and I have fallen behind on a lot of things. As I write this, I am on the verge of getting evicted from my apartment. Please help. Any encouragement or resources you have would be appreciated.

    Dear Reader,

    Romans 8:28 King James Version (KJV) says;

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

As Christian women, our encouragement can be found in the Word of God! We know that what seems like a great loss, can actually become an overwhelming victory in the end. Let’s consider Job, who lost E-V-E-R-Y-THANG! “That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.” (Job 1:1b NKJV) So know this divorce ---and the fall out of it all--- is not your fault and could happen to anybody. Like Job, maintain your integrity. Continue to praise God in the midst of this storm and know that when it is over, this could be you!  “10 And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.” (Job 42:10 NKJV)

Now, we have to deal with the priority of the moment. You’re facing eviction. There are only two answers to this:

First, downgrade gracefully, and work with the landlord to get out of your lease and avoid an eviction judgment on your credit report. An eviction will hunt you for the next 3 years making it extraordinarily difficult (if not impossible) to rent in your own name. This route will likely include having to do the hard thing and move in with relatives, or into a smaller home with your children so that you can afford to pay bills with your current income. When you downgrade, it is inconvenient for the short term but will allow you to save more money long-term so you can begin to build your business back up and eventually be in a more comfortable place.

Second, make more money, honey! Being “on the verge of being evicted” means, you have at least another 30 days to generate the money you need to stay in your family home and avoid this uncomfortable shift. Therefore, you’re going to have to do something different, that allows you to generate money right now, while still being available for your kids. If your successful business doesn’t have an online learning component, now is the time to launch it!

If you have specialized knowledge, now is the time to package it in a book and/or a coaching program and start selling it, even before it is finished. Make some promo graphics in canva.com that say, “COMING SOON” (insert your problem-solving solution here lady) and create a landing page (MailChimp is easy and free), build your email list if you don’t already have one and then make an offer for people to pre-order with a link to a PayPal button. BOOM! Cash flow. Pay your rent and keep building your brand, adding new streams of revenue so that you can increase your income and maintain your lifestyle.

Only you know where you are and only God can tell you what you need to do, so pray about it. “And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” (Matt. 21:22 NKJV)

Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11

No one wants to hear this, but sis, this could have been avoided! By having the proper mechanisms and structure in place for you to step away from your business, you could have taken the necessary mental break after your divorce and still have been generating income. Often times, we are doing too much. You can’t just be a solopreneur your whole life.

There is an affordable workforce available to take on more minute tasks in your business through platforms such as Upwork.com and Overpass.com. Whether your business is striving or struggling, you can afford to have an extra pair of hands in the form of a virtual assistant so as to not drop the ball. Your profits and your customer base shouldn’t suffer when you have to take a step back to focus on self-care or family.

Honestly speaking, as entrepreneurs, we can’t afford NOT to make use of these virtual assistants.

    Consider this:

    1. You’ll be able to earn more over time when you provide better customer experiences; and

    2. Your mind is free from menial tasks to think and be more creative in adding revenue streams.

If your business was doing well before, it can do well again. You need to create systems of automation and operational procedures so a virtual team can come on board and free you up to attend to the things that matter most. You need to be able to focus on God’s purpose for your life, being a great mom, and providing quality service or products to your clients.

Finally, you need a coach! If you don’t know where to start or the process to take to earn more money now, get a free coaching call or discovery call with any of the many business gurus out there. You can reach out to one of the members of the Minority Christian Women Empowerment Network; it’s a great place to start. Because one thing’s for sure, you never have to struggle alone.

Praying for your peace and your success,

    Ashley

P.S. Get court-ordered support from the father of your children! You are not responsible to take care of all these expenses on your own! Also, here is another helpful resource: https://www.needhelppayingbills.com/index.html
