5 Steps to Shift from Solopreneur to Executive

In business, the journey of growth often requires us to face our fears and release the reins a little. The idea of letting others into the intricate workings of our business can feel daunting—trusting someone else with your vision, your ideas, and your passion isn't easy. You might worry about whether they will be as dedicated as you are, if they'll truly understand your mission, or if they'll respect the unique processes you've created. These fears are valid, but they shouldn't hold you back.

The truth is, building a successful business is not a solo endeavor. At some point, we all reach a stage where trying to do everything ourselves becomes a bottleneck to growth. Getting help isn't just about offloading tasks; it's about bringing in the right support to take your business to the next level. By learning how to effectively delegate and empower others, you can focus on what truly matters—driving the vision forward and ensuring your business thrives.

Here’s how you can transition from a solopreneur mindset to thinking and operating like an executive:

1. List out all the things only YOU can do & that is Income Generating

There are some things in your business that only you can do. You want to list out all the income-generated tasks. These are the things like connecting with other brands for collaborations, developing a product or service, and learning a new skill. These are the things you will be focusing on in order to bring money into the business.

2. List out what takes up your time that you can do but someone else can do better

For me, it was creating content via social media. The reason I started a podcast was because I spent too much time creating actual content that I never got the chance to truly develop my service offering that would serve the people I am called to. What are those tasks that someone else can do? It can be creating graphics, slide decks, answering emails, managing inboxes, etc.

3. Set up the proper back-end system and channels

This was a big one for me. You are the manager of what God has given you. That is what it means to be an executive. It is important for you to set up the proper internal systems to make sure communication between you and your team is effective. What that looks like are Agreements to protect your ideas and systems, an organization board to host all your work, an internal communication board, etc. It looks different for everyone but the point is, what does it look like to Onboard someone, communicate, keep everyone on the same page, and move forward with the company's brand and mission

4. Hire

Now, I know this can be scary especially if you're not making money in the business yet. I get it! You want to set a small budget for yourself to hire so that you can begin to make money. My budget started at $500. I would have to stretch across the board, and during tougher business seasons sometimes there is no budget! One of the first people I hired was a graphic designer to do all my branding and later a virtual assistant. Who do you need to hire to help you get to where you need to be and what can you offer them? Money, exposure, referral, free products or services?

5. Ask for help within your network

This is my favorite one! There is nothing like the people within your network. The people in your network already know your mission, and what the business/brand is about and are invested in it. God has placed people right within your network with the gifts and skills needed to help you with what He has given you. Asking for help from the women within my network had to have been one of the best decisions I could have made with this mindset shift. Is there someone that you know within your network with the gifts and skills to help you? ask them!

Remember, stepping into your role as a business leader requires courage, trust, and a willingness to grow beyond your comfort zone.

By embracing the power of delegation and seeking help where needed, you're not only setting yourself up for success but also allowing your business to flourish in ways you might not have imagined. As you move forward, keep in mind that the journey is not meant to be traveled alone. Lean into your network, build a strong team, and focus on the bigger picture—your business's potential is limitless when you allow others to come alongside you in this journey.
