I Woke Up Like This

By: Carmela Rapley

I don’t know about you, but I surely did not wake up with peppermint breath, smudge free makeup, and ready to run a 5k race. I woke up with messy hair, stinky breath, a bad attitude, an achy back and barely enough energy to make me a cup of coffee. It’s great to look good, feel good and act good but let’s be honest, that is just not how we always wake up looking or feeling. The vicissitude of life has a way of altering the organic, beautiful image that we were created in, which is the image of our Lord and Savior.

We were fearfully and wonderfully made, yet, many times we walk in fear, questioning why God even made us. However, we often discover our true self in those moments in life when we are in pain, when we are not clean (inside and out) and when we are at our ugliest. It is in those moments of fear, that we learn to be of courage. As we embrace those wonderful and beautiful life moments, let’s also embrace those ugly and painful moments as well, because it is in those moments that we are molded, pressed together and strengthened.

So, take a look in the mirror and tell yourself, “I woke up like this, but I will not stay like this. I am fearfully, and wonderfully made in the image of my Lord.”

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalms 139:13-14 NIV
