The Non-Negotiable to Growing and Sustaining Your Business

Updated: Jun 13

As a faith-driven entrepreneur, you probably started your business with a passion to serve others, but as your business grows, so does the weight of responsibilities. You might feel overwhelmed by all the tasks piling up, thinking you must do everything yourself. But did you know: delegation is a biblical principle that can help you steward your business well?

What the Bible Teaches Us About Delegation and Stewardship

In Exodus 18, Moses was doing one of his usual responsibilities, judging the people, and his father-in-law, Jethro, noticed that he was doing it alone and without help from morning to evening. Jethro told Moses, “The thing that you do is not good. Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out. For this is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself…” (Exodus 18:17-18)

So Jethro gave Moses wise counsel regarding the matter. It was the solution to avoid burning out and becoming overwhelmed with the responsibility, and it was a solution to make sure that the people you’re meant to serve are also receiving the most effective and efficient support as possible. His solution was: Delegate. He advised Moses to appoint trustworthy people to handle smaller tasks so he could focus only on what he could do. The same applies to us as entrepreneurs.

Delegation is a biblical and wise principle all about stewarding the things God has entrusted you with well while maintaining your health, peace, and well-being.

Why Delegation is Crucial for Entrepreneurs

As a busy, multi-hat-wearing entrepreneur, you're probably juggling everything: marketing, client work, finance, and operations. But if you continue doing everything yourself, you’ll reach a breaking point. Delegation allows you to:

  • Free up your time for high-priority tasks that directly impact your business’s growth.

  • Invest in people who can take on tasks with excellence, allowing you to scale.

  • Honor God by managing your time wisely and not burning out.

How to Delegate with Confidence

Here’s how you can start delegating today:

Identify Low-Impact Tasks

Make a list of tasks that drain your energy but don’t directly contribute to growing your business. These are the “smaller tasks” that can be delegated or outsourced to someone else, giving you more energy and time to focus on the “harder tasks”. For example, administrative tasks like scheduling meetings or answering emails can be passed on to someone else.

Trust and Empower Others

Delegation requires trust. (Hint, Jethro told Moses to find trustworthy people.) Look for people who align with your values and demonstrate reliability. Trusting others with responsibilities is an act of faith. For instance, if you have someone handling your social media, trust them to create posts that match your brand voice and values.

Create Systems and Processes

It’s important to set up the people for success. Outline clear instructions for tasks you delegate. For example, if you’re delegating social media management, for example, provide a content calendar and brand guidelines so your assistant can take over seamlessly. Clear communication ensures that your team can step in and perform the tasks with excellence.

Trusting God in Delegation

Delegation isn’t just a business strategy, it’s a way to trust God’s provision and entrust others with the work He’s called them to. By doing so, you free up space to do what God has uniquely called you to do in your business, allowing you to honor God with your time and energy. It’s a partnership with Him. Start delegating today, and watch how it transforms your productivity and peace.
