Growth doesn’t always look like winning. Sometimes, it feels like waiting, pruning, and being pulled outside your comfort zone. For minority Christian women building businesses, that stretch isn’t a setback—it’s often the exact sign that God is preparing you for something greater.
If you've been feeling pressure in areas that once felt easy—or sensing that God is shifting something in your spirit—you might be in a divine season of stretching. This is when God expands your capacity so you can carry the blessing you've been praying for.
Here are 5 signs you're being called higher and how to respond in faith.
1. You're Restless in a Place That Used to Bring You Peace
There was a time when your current level felt like an answered prayer. But now, the same routines, offers, or client work that once fulfilled you feel too small or out of sync. You’re no longer content doing business as usual—and that’s not a lack of gratitude. That’s growth.
Restlessness is often a divine disruption.
It’s God stirring you up so you don’t settle when He’s calling you higher.
Biblical Truth: "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?" – Isaiah 43:19
Faith-Inspired Action: Journal where you feel the most tension or boredom. That might be the very area God wants to upgrade.
2. New Opportunities Are Coming, And They Challenge You
Sometimes, the stretching comes in the form of answered prayers that feel bigger than you imagined: a chance to collaborate with a major brand, speak at a conference, or expand your product line. You’re excited—but scared too. God often calls us to spaces that require more faith than familiarity.
You’re not unqualified—you’re just untested at this level.
Biblical Truth: "To whom much is given, much will be required." – Luke 12:48
Faith-Inspired Action: Ask: What does this opportunity require from me emotionally, spiritually, and operationally? Invite God into your preparation process.
3. You’re Facing Resistance From Others or From Within
Maybe you’ve shared your new vision and been met with silence, doubt, or skepticism. Or maybe your own thoughts are resisting: Who do I think I am to do this? This inner and outer resistance is a sign that your next level threatens comfort zones—yours and others'.
Stretching will often trigger fear, but fear doesn't mean stop. It means proceed with faith.
Biblical Truth: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid... for the Lord your God goes with you." – Deuteronomy 31:6
Faith-Inspired Action: Create a voice memo or affirmation rooted in scripture and replay it when doubt creeps in. Let faith get the final word.
4. You're Being Asked to Release What No Longer Serves You
Elevation requires elimination. God might be asking you to end a service offering, walk away from a loyal but misaligned client, or rethink how you’ve always done things. It feels like loss, but it’s really preparation for the next level.
Holding on to what’s familiar may delay what’s next.
Biblical Truth: "Every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful." – John 15:2
Faith-Inspired Action: Pray over what needs to be released. Trust that making room is the first step to receiving more.
5. You Feel God’s Presence, Even in the Unknown
You don’t have all the answers—but you do feel God’s peace. That quiet confidence, that knowing in your spirit, is often how God leads. It may not be clear how all the pieces will come together, but something in you knows you're on the right track.
This is the sweet spot of stretching: moving forward without seeing the full map but knowing God is guiding each step.
Biblical Truth: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." – Proverbs 3:5
Faith-Inspired Action: Make time daily to sit with God in prayer or stillness. Let peace—not pressure—lead your next steps.
Final Thoughts: Stretching Is Preparation, Not Punishment
If you're in a season where everything feels just a little too tight, too uncertain, or too new—take heart. You're not doing something wrong. You're being stretched for something right.
As a minority Christian woman in business, your journey is both spiritual and strategic. When God calls you higher, He equips you for where you’re going—not where you’ve been.
So lean in. Trust the process. Let Him stretch you. And remember: when you’re being called higher, it’s not just about doing more—it’s about becoming more of who God created you to be.
