Body, Mind, and Spirit: Healing through Faith

Prayer heals. There is no doubt about that. There are countless testimonies of prayers healing the sick and even raising the dead, but then there are many more testimonies of God healing people in different ways. Sometimes, it’s by going to the hospital for treatment; sometimes it’s by changing your diet. Sometimes, it’s by going to therapy consistently; other times it is simply by stopping the scroll 2 hours every day.
God is able to reach you where you are, and limiting Him to just one thing doesn’t change a thing for Him, but it does for you. Your faith to get healed isn't in the prayer, but in the One you're praying to.
God Wants You Whole, Probably More Than You Do
John wrote in 3 John 1:2 that, “Beloved, I pray in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually]” (AMPC). I believe that this means that God, who loves you dearly, wants you to enjoy physical health as well as spiritual health. This means, then, that when He leads you in how you can get your healing during your time of prayer, it would be wise to follow that prompting, and not insist on praying your way to health.
Healed by Faith, through Obedience
Naaman’s story in 2 Kings 5:1-17 is a classic example of human pride and stubbornness. A great man - captain of a powerful army - Naaman was a leper, and was directed (by a slave girl!) to go to Israel, where a prophet there could heal him. Off he went, and when he was told to dip himself in the Jordan 7 times, he was vexed. I imagine spitting mad, even. Eventually, he was convinced to go, and he got healed.

Now, what if he had gone back to his land with his leprosy intact? I believe he prayed for healing and visited as many healers as he could (and he could, of course), but for some reason, he balked at this simple instruction. Was it that it was so simple he doubted it would work, or he really didn’t want to enter Jordan?
Why do you insist on getting whole one way, and refuse to consider another? If you’re a prayerful person who studies your Bible, then you surely know when you’re hearing God. If you feel a nudge to book an appointment with a counselor, there can’t possibly be any harm in that. You can’t possibly be going out of God’s will by seeking therapy or going to the hospital. The same way you nourish your spirit with the Word, is the same way you nourish your mind, your body, and your emotions.
God wants you to prosper in every way, just as you prosper spiritually. When you pray for healing, and you get an instruction instead, that is your healing. Let God heal you His way.
It is, after all, the best.
