As entrepreneurs, we talk a lot about hustle—but not nearly enough about holy rest. Rest isn’t the reward after work; it’s the rhythm God designed for sustainability.
As you prepare for the holidays, make sure your business is set up to rest, too. Here’s how to create margin while keeping your clients informed and your peace intact.
Set Clear Expectations Early
Communicate your time off before you log off. Send a short email or include a line in your newsletter:
“Our office will be closed from December 20 to January 3 to rest, recharge, and prepare for the new year. We’ll respond to all messages after that date.”
Clients appreciate clarity. It’s professional and protective.
Write Your Out-of-Office Autoresponder
Use language that reflects your brand voice and faith. For example:
“Thank you for reaching out. Our team is currently observing time off for rest and renewal. We’ll respond when we return on January 3. Wishing you a peaceful holiday season!”
Update Your Calendar and Systems
Block off your calendar, pause auto-scheduling, and pre-schedule social media posts. Automation lets your business stay visible while you stay present with family.
Empower Your Team or Automations
If you have support staff or tools that can manage small tasks in your absence, empower them to do so. A little preparation now saves a lot of stress later.
Actually Rest
You can’t pour from an empty cup. Even Jesus took time to step away and pray. Give yourself permission to do the same.
